“I guess you could call my fascination with faces a huge part of my style. I always shoot portraits on the side, even if it is during a fashion shoot.“
When and where were you born?
Where do you currently live and work?
I have lived and worked in Hamburg since 2009, and just a few months ago I started working as a freelance art director and photographer.
How long have you been practicing your craft?
After completing my studies in IT and Design, I started as a full-time art-director for a big advertising-agency here in Hamburg; that was 3 years ago. However, photography has always been a big part of my life. During my studies I had the chance to deepen my knowledge and get first hand experience in working with people in front of my lense. Since then, I have always done photo-shoots in my spare time.
What inspires you?
Working in close collaboration with human beings.
How would you describe your style
I guess you could call my fascination with faces a huge part of my style. I always shoot portraits on the side, even if it is during a fashion shoot.
What has been a defining moment in your career?
About a year ago I realized that next to my full-time job, I just couldn’t make enough time for photography. And that would never change as long as I didn’t change my direction. Working with huge clients was (and still is) exciting, but it wears on you. I just needed the freedom to choose who I work for and who I work with, as well as the possibility to take my time for personal projects.
What are your future plans?
Of course I want to combine both of my passions: art direction and photography. But my main-goal is to gain a foothold as a photographer. It will take a while, but it will be worth it.
Can you leave us with some parting words or advice?
Though it sounds cheesy, the following sentence always kept me going: If you do what you love, you never have to work again. Sounds good to me.
